The Draw A Person: Screening Procedure for Emotional Disturbance (DAP:SPED) helps identify children and adolescents ages 6 to 17 who have emotional problems and require further evaluation. It has items that are used to rate the drawings of a man, a woman, and the self. The items were based on an exhaustive review of the literature on human figure drawings, and the test was written to be fast to score. It was normed on a nationwide sample of 2,260 students representative of the nation as a whole with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, geographic region, and socioeconomic status. It yields a standard T score that determines if further assessment is not indicated, indicated, or strongly indicated, and may be conducted individually or in a group.
