Encourage reluctant readers to read for enjoyment while reinforcing critical comprehension, writing, and vocabulary skills. Each 120-page book features 10 fiction and 10 nonfiction passages, covering a wide range of topics and written at a second or third grade reading level. Activity sheets follow each passage and use a variety of formats, including multiple choice, fill in the blank, graphs, and charts.
HIGH-INTEREST STORIES—Written to engage struggling readers, passages cover a variety of highinterest, real-world; topics, including famous people, intriguing events, and action-oriented careers. Each lowlevel passage is between 210 and 320 words and is laid out in two columns for ease of reading. Both fiction and nonfiction passages include simple illustrations to serve as visual cues. Examples include a fiction passage about a character who wants to learn how to ride dirt bikes and a nonfiction passage about champion skateboarder Tony Hawk.
Each book includes a list of the passages and corresponding reading levels to guide teacher planning.
EACH BOOK INCLUDES—20 High-Interest Passages, 100 Activities, Progress Chart and Correlations to National Reading Standards, and Graphic Organizer Templates that allow teachers to customize activities for any of the passages.
